Kitty's Martini 50/50

This simple, elegant cocktail is the martini that made me a martini person. The Martini 50/50 shines bright amongst an incredible array of cocktails created by my dear friend Brendon Clark, and served at Kitty's Restaurant in Hudson, NY. Its subtle, balanced flavor and smooth texture have made this drink my number one go-to when I just can't muster up the imagination to come up with something fancy at the end of the day.

In a cocktail mixing glass

1 1/2 ounces London dry gin

1 1/2 ounces Cap Corse Blanc, or vermouth bianco of your choice

1 dash Fee Brother's orange bitters

1 dash Regan's orange bitters

On the sidelines

Chilled coupe or martini glass

Lemon peel for garnishing

1

In a sturdy mixing glass, stir all ingredients with a handful of ice until thoroughly chilled. This step also ensures that the spirit-heavy cocktail is properly diluted.

2

Strain the mixture into your chilled glass using a julep strainer or a fine mesh sieve. Double strain if you must, but I don't find it necessary.

3

Express the oils of a fresh lemon peel over the cocktail and around the rim of the glass. Enjoy the simple elegance of your new favorite libation.
